“Greenfield, with his alto saxophone and a host of effects at the ready can redecorate a room in a sonic rainbow of musical colors…If touch points of the jazz tradition abound, so do traces of countless other disparate genres and forms; unpredictability is assured.” — Steve Futterman, The New Yorker
Hayes Greenfield: Solo Electro-Acoustic Spatial Immersive Project (Quad Performance)
Join award-winning multi-instrumentalist and composer Hayes Greenfield for an immersive electro-acoustic performance in quad surround sound. Blending his backgrounds in jazz improvisation, film composition, and sound design, Greenfield transforms saxophone, flute, clarinet, kalimba, and voice through looping and live spatial processing to create evolving “sound sculptures” that swirl and shift through the room.
A pioneer in integrating technology and improvisation since his early work with the Sinclavier, Greenfield now performs using MAX MSP software, crafting entirely live, real-time compositions with no pre-recorded tracks. The result is a deeply dynamic, minimalist sound world that invites audiences into a multidimensional sonic journey.
Based in New York City, Greenfield has collaborated with artists including Jaki Byard, Rashied Ali, and Richie Havens, and composed scores for over 70 films, including Emmy and Telly Award–winning documentaries. His third album for Sunnyside Records, a solo binaural recording, will be released in May 2026.
